World War II is an ever-growing topic in modern archaeology fields. While the focus is usually on the United States' efforts, especially in the Pacific, emphasis has begun shifting towards the Japanese story. Due to destruction of records after the Japanese surrender, investigation of their side of the war is limited. In The Lost Submarines of Pearl Harbor, Del-gado et al. combine historical research and multiple archaeological expeditions to reveal the relatively un-investigated tale of the Japanese midget submarines.
