The US National Science Foundation (NSF) could face a $2l-million bill to cover extra costs incurred by the contractor building two long-delayed and highly complex radiotelescopes. US astronomers are concerned that cost overruns on the telescopes will eat into NSF's budget for radioastronomy research. But NSF officials say that the delays are not unusual, considering the nature of the projects, and that it is not yet known how much extra the foundation will have to pay.
