Nasa will land another rover on Mars in 2020 at a cost of US$ 1.5 billion, said John Grunsfeld, the agency's science chief, on 4 December. Earlier this year, NASA pulled out of the European Space Agency's 2016-18 ExoMars mission, which included a NASA rover intended to cache rocks before their eventual return to Earth, alongside a European life-detection rover.
