Robot sailor

A wave-powered robot named Papa Mau has broken the record for the longest distance travelled by an autonomous vehicle, its maker announced on 6 December. The robot is one of four 'Wave Gliders' (pictured) launched by Liquid Robotics in Sunnyvale, California, to gather oceanographic data.
