Ladybirds from central Asia act as a Trojan horse for a microscopic killer. Farmers brought harlequin ladybird beetles (Harmonia axyridis, pictured) to North America and Europe to eat troublesome aphids, but the insects quickly — and mysteriously — began to supplant native ladybirds.
