The genetic analysis of schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders, such as bipolar disorder and autism, has begun to yield replicable and informative results at the molecular level. These successes are creating epochal opportunities to understand disease mechanisms and allow us to envisage an era of therapeutics directed at pathogenic processes - unlike current antipsychotic and antidepressant drugs that merely control symptoms.
