A new lease on life

Building owners and occupiers across Australia are realising the wellbeing and OHS benefits of green, sustainable buildings. Pre- and post-occupancy surveys are reporting improved productivity and reduced absenteeism. However, can green bricks and mortar really deliver credible OHS gains?rnCommercial buildings in Australia account for at least 10 per cent of our greenhouse gas emissions - which have grown by 87 per cent between 1990 and 2006 - according to the federal Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts. It projects that carbon emissions will have nearly doubled between 1990 and 2010, increasing from 8.5 megatonnes to 16.5 megatonnes.
