Govt launches SWA round two

The Federal Government has re-introduced the Safe Work Australia Bill 2008 in another attempt to establish Safe Work Australia (SWA) under the terms of the OHS intergovernmental agreement.rnLate last year, the Government was unsuccessful in pushing the original bill through the Senate. The Opposition and cross-bench senators refused to pass the bill unamended, demanding changes to the composition and operation of SWA.rnIn response, the Federal Workplace Relations Minister, Julia Gillard, laid aside the bill and bypassed Parliament, establishing SWA as an executive agency prescribed under the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997.
