Cyclone George conviction

A Supreme Court judge has convicted construction company Laing O'Rourke for failing to provide a safe workplace at a Pilbara work camp where two workers were killed when Cyclone George swept through the area in March 2007.rnWorkSafe WA had appealed against a magistrates' court decision last October to acquit the company.rnJustice Michael Murray found Laing O'Rourke guilty on two counts of failing to provide a safe working environment. Sentencing will be at a later date.rnLaing O'Rourke was under contract to Pilbara Infrastructure, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortescue Metals Group to build bridges on a rail line.
