The age of offshore oil and gas drilling rigs operating off the Australian coast is causing some concerns to the National Offshore Petroleum Safety Authority (NOPSA).rnChief Executive Officer Jane Cutler told an IFAP breakfast function in Perth that only five of about 15 rigs were less than 10 years old. Three of them were more than 30 years old, with the rest constructed 20 to 30 years ago.rnCutler said the operational code for drilling platforms had changed significantly in 1989, placing a new focus on stability and balancing requirements. She said this meant that many rigs currently operating did not meet this code and posed the question: "Is that something we are all comfortable with?"
