The collapse of a crane at a home construction site that narrowly missed workers has led to a crane operator being fined $8,000.rnBruce Edwin Bannister pleaded guilty in the Magistrates Court of Western Australia (Fremantle) to failing to ensure his own safety and failing to ensure the safety of others.rnThe court was told that in March 2009, Bannister had set up a crane with one of its supports on soft sand and another on a pile of bricks.rnWhen the dogman asked Bannister to do a practice run without the load attached, the supports collapsed under the crane and it tipped over, coming to rest on the building and scaffolding.
