Workers compensation schemes across Australia impose various obligations on employers and employees. While the schemes provide benefits payable to injured workers, they are similarly focused on a timely return to work and appropriate injury management of injured workers. While from a practical point of view this is determined individually by employers and their respective workers compensation insurers, the outcome of such injury management and rehabilitation programs can be significantly affected by the actual relationship between the employer and employee before a work-related injury happens.
