Portable cameras improve submarine maintenance safety

ASC maintains and upgrades Collins Class submarines and has developed a confined-space hazard reduction initiative that could prevent serious injury and even save lives. Working inside a submarine requires access to confined spaces, which means full visibility and audible contact with workers can sometimes be difficult to maintain, increasing the risk to personal safety. ASC's solution is to provide workers with portable cameras to use when undertaking maintenance in confined spaces. Images are transmitted to a sentry stationed outside the space, who can immediately organise assistance if required.
