摘要

Safety is paramount in any Lifting operation. Whether you are an operator or a handler, tasks are often very dangerous, and the industry must constantly look to raise safety standards for crane and lifting operations. Every year there are injuries and deaths in Australia from work involving cranes. Safe Work Australia statistics highlight the concern between 2003-2015, 47 workers were killed in incidents involving cranes and on average there are around 240 serious injury claims every year. Several accidents hit the headlines in August 2017, including two on the same day. One involved a crane situated on a barge beside the entrance to Sydney's Luna Park falling into the harbour. The other saw a crane left dangling 51 storeys up in the construction hotspot of Barangaroo. Also that month, three workers were injured when a crane collapsed onto an apartment block near Sydney Airport. More recently, in September last year, a man was killed and another seriously injured after being struck by a 1.5-tonne tub of concrete, which fell from a crane at a Box Hill construction site.
