Versatility and Diversity

With an issue devoted to marine technology in Canada-as with any Western shipbuilding country-there could be a tendency to begin by looking back on past successes and reconciling the trending reductions with the inevitable migration of skills, work, and ships to the shipyards of Asia. However, as we hope to demonstrate in this issue, two key features of the Canadian maritime industry promise the hope of success for coming years: versatility and diversity. The breadth of activity currently underway in Canada can be seen on the table of contents page in this issue of (mt); however, although impressive, it does not tell the whole story.
