LNG on the Inland Waterways

In recent years, liquefied natural gas (LNG) has become an increasingly desirable means of energy storage, from its earliest conceived uses for bulk transportation of energy to the more recent applications as a fuel for medium- and high-horsepower consumers. For the unfamiliar reader, LNG is a refrigerated state of natural gas, which as a cryogenic liquid is more than 600 times denser than atmospheric natural gas. LNG is non-toxic, non-flammable (as a liquid), colorless, and odorless. As a cryogenic liquid, like liquid nitrogen, LNG will "boil off," as heat enters the insulated tanks in which it is stored.
