In the past few decades, computers have dramatically changed the way we do engineering. Computer aided design enables engineers to rapidly design complex devices and perform strength and other analyses. Simulation allows for rapid testing, dramatically reducing costs and enabling experiments that otherwise would be infeasible. Low-cost sensors provide a way to monitor the performance and health of systems, allowing comparisons against historical data or mathematical models to detect maintenance issues before they become critical.
