As David Biderman approached his first anniversary at the Association's helm, MSW Management asked him for his reflections on the journey. MSW Management (MSW): What were the key issues and how did you plan to address them? David Biderman (DB): When I joined SWANA in April 2015, the proposed FY 2016 budget had not been approved and FY 2015 was expected to close with a significant deficit. In addition, any time there is a change in association leadership, particularly after the retirement of a long-time, well-respected executive director, members and staff will feel uncertainty about the future. About a month before I joined SWANA, the International Board (IB) had also approved a new five-year Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan includes dozens of implementation goals and strategies, and I was responsible for ensuring their execution.
