In late March, I took the hatchback north to the Mammoth Mountain ski resort in California's Eastern Sierras for a long weekend. Whoever said the journey is more important than the destination might have been driving the approximately 160-mile run between Indian Wells and Mammoth Lakes on U.S. 395. In the Owens Valley, it's a chasm with the Eastern Sierras to the west and the smaller Inyo Mountains to the east. The landscape is beautiful.
