There are times when having another AC outlet would make life aboard more convenient. Adding an outlet to a shore power system is not difficult, but there are six important rules you should follow to ensure your success and safety: 1. Gain at least a basic understanding of the electrical circuit you are working with. 2. Use only wire and other components that have been specifically designed and manufactured for marine use. 3. Since all marine wire is stranded rather than solid, crimp-on connectors must be used to make connections. 4. Make sure the shore power system is disconnected (not just shut off) before you start. 5. Inspect your work thoroughly before you power up the system. 6. If you are uncomfortable with any aspect of the project, have a professional do the job.
