Fixtures and enquiries were plentiful at the start of the month, as fundamentals remained very strong with high gas prices all around the world. Despite little shipping activity and sparse position lists, relet freight could make itself available for requirements. Plenty of relets emerged to cover three tender requirements which dominated interest in the first week, as portfolio players played with their programs. Despite the relatively slow start to June given the market environment, mid-month activity saw shipping spur into action. Around 25 fixtures were concluded by the 15th June, both spot and term. The first half of 2021 based on SSY records for LNG spot averages was the strongest first half of any year since 2014, with an average recorded (TFDE) of $68,000/day. On term, one TFDE on a 12-month charter was taken in the high $80,000s/day. The Atlantic was the hub of the action, with the number of fixtures seeing several cargoes out of USG remaining uncovered as tonnage was snatched up. Some production issues also drove up gas prices further, opening a healthy arb between Atlantic and Pacific.
