Through the second quarter of this year, the influence of the global economic crisis has taken its toll on the tanker markets, contributing to some of the weakest freight rate levels on record. While vessel values and volume of new orders have also come under pressure, there is little to suggest in the way of any slowdown in the number of tankers being delivered to the fleet this year.rnIn the first five months of 2009, the delivery schedule for some sectors of the tanker fleet was particularly robust. This is in stark contrast to the dry bulk sector, where the measure of deliveries so far this year suggests marked slippage into 2010.
