Mid-year estimates for the 10,000+ dwt fleets of dry bulk carriers (494.6 Mdwt) and tankers (414.6 Mdwt) reveal respective growth rates of 8.0% (36.8 Mdwt) and 2.9% (11.6 Mdwt) since the beginning of the year. This reflects both the faster rate of newbuilding deliveries into the dry bulk sector (at 36.4 Mdwt in the 1h10 compared with 20.5 Mdwt of tankers), as well as a slower rate of deletions (at just 1.7 Mdwt against 8.9 Mdwt for tankers). Growth in the dry bulk fleet in the 1h10 was further boosted by the arrival of 2.2 Mdwt of converted tankers.
