In the dry bulk carrier sector, Capesize involvement in bauxite trades from Guinea has created a significant additional source of fronthaul trade this year. Using AIS data we observed Capes carrying bauxite to Asia from the anchorage at Port Kamsar from February, initially supplementing Panamaxes and now overtaking Panamax fronthaul shipments. August was the busiest month to date for Capesize liftings, with six bauxite shipments departing for Asia.
