A mere three years ago, in December 2006, the Eddington Transport Study gave scant encouragementrnto the construction of new highrnspeed railways in Britain. It suggested that there could well be better ways of achieving similar goals, and in any case there were probably more effective ways of spending the necessary funds.rnCut to the present day, and the case for high speed lines has been much advanced. Two studies have now been published, with a third yet to report.
