ATW EVALUATES VIDEO ASSISTTVMs

Arriva trains wales is evaluating results from what is believed to be the first deployment ofVideo Assist Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) on the National Rail network.The machines enable customers to speak to a member of staff in Cardiff Central booking office whose face appears in an inset window on the TVM screen. The staff member can also see the customer on a computer screen in Cardiff. The system draws on the experience in Germany of ATW's parent company, Deutsche Bahn. The Association ofTrain Operating Companies provided a software upgrade for ATW.
