'92s' REMOVED FROM SLEEPERS GBRf DRAFTS IN '90s'TO COVER ANGLO-SCOTTISH LEGS

Caledonian sleeper operator Serco has temporarily removed Class 92s from hauling the Anglo-Scottish portions of its services following a series of recent reliability issues. Serco awarded a 15-year contract to provide haulage for the sleepers to GB Railfreight, which is reported to have spent'millions'on overhaul work and repainting of the'92s'in the new Caledonian Sleeper livery. GBRf has been forced to hire in Class 90s from Freightliner and DB Schenker to cover the four nightly diagrams rostered for electric traction. The operator says that the'92s' have been removed 'to enable GBRf and its maintenance partners to tackle the issues that have been causing concern! As failures increased GBRf had used heritage locomotives Nos 86101 and 87002, originally destined only for moving empty stock, on the main services.
