10 MORE YEARS FOR HULL TRAINS NEW BI-MODE TRAINS TO REPLACE CLASS 180s

The office of Rail and Road has approved an application by open access operator First Hull Trains to extend its track access rights for a further 10 years, meaning they will run until December 2029. As part of the extension, the operator has committed to procuring a new fleet of five bi-mode trains to replace the four Class 180 DMUs it currently uses on services between Hull and London King's Cross. It says full details of the new bi-mode trains will be available later this year; it is anticipated that they will enter service in 2020 and will enable a 50% increase in the number of seats for passengers. In the meantime, the company has pledged to invest in the current fleet, including refurbishment of on-board service facilities, and will look at ways to increase the capacity of current services.
