OPERATORS TARGET 75% PASSENGER RETURN

TRAIN OPERATORS have suggested they hope to win back around 75% of pre-pandemic passengers. Abellio UK Managing Director Dominic Booth quoted the figure to the House of Commons Transport Committee in a session held on 18 November. Explaining his prediction, Mr Booth said: 'Within that, there will be quite a lot of change ... for instance, travel-to-work patterns will be substantially different'.He continued: 'It is a combination of winning back, let's say, the vast majority of our passenger numbers, but then recognising the future role of rail in the climate emergency agenda, which is going to play an even greater role than it has recently. Forecasting the future is difficult, but we think a combination of winning back a very healthy chunk of our previous patronage, added to an enhanced role in the climate change agenda over the next several years, calls for quite a substantial and large-sized railway to remain.'
