Certifying the supply chain technician

If your organization is hiring an individual with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, you have a good sense of what the potential candidates covered in school. The same can't be said when it comes to hiring a supply chain technician. While the auto industry looks for technicians with an ASE (automotive service excellence) certification-and the lift truck industry often reaches out to ASE-certified technicians-there is currently no corollary for the materials handling industry. "If you're a systems integrator or a retailer with a job opening, what do you call that position?" asks Daniel Stanton, MHI's vice president of education and professional development. "Is it an installer, a mechanic, an electrician? You and a competitor may be looking for the same thing, and calling it something different."
