Hydraulics in Upper Coupler Tip Tank Trailer

Among the new tank trailers exhibited at the IAA commercial vehicle show in Hanover, Germany, was a Magyar edible products tanker with a tipping upper coupler plate. In order to provide a better slope for discharging highly, viscous liquids, such as liquid sugar, glu-cose, or chocolate, the tank can be tipped to about a 10% slope. That is, the trailer air suspension can be lowered and the tractor suspension raised to provide a little more than a 2% slope. An additional 8% slope is provided by a hydraulic cylinder lifting the tank above the fifthwheel plate. This sys- tem results in a tank trailer 1400 kg (3,100 lb) lighter than the standard tipping tank on a chassis, according to Magyar sales personnel.
