Expanding horizons with BASIC PHOTO BACKDROPS

My HO scale New York, New Haven & Hartford layout is based on the line from Boston to Cape Cod. I needed a scenic transition between the towns of Orleans and Provincetown. Though separated by 20 miles in reality, I had 18" to achieve a similar separation. I used the Pamet River, an inlet off Cape Cod Bay, as my scenic break. But the only way I was going to accurately capture the look of the anchorage and house-covered hills in the distance was with a real photo backdrop.
