Like many rural and northern authorities, we seem to lose a lot of our bright young people to bigger cities so we're looking to reduce the talent drain. Alongside this work we have been focusing on attracting and retaining more families to live in Craven and the Yorkshire Dales National Park and it's been great to see some real progress with those initiatives in recent months. One of the key approaches to boost our appeal is increasing our arts and cultural offer. We were successful in acquiring significant funding from the Arts Council to develop the Great Place Lakes and Dales project (in conjunction with South Lakeland DC), using creative industries working to change perceptions of the area in a bid to increase the proportion of 16-35-year-olds choosing to live and work here. In recent months we completed a £4.7m refurbishment of Skipton Town Hall, creating a vibrant new museum and performance space in the process. We are also developing an Arts House, providing studio space for creative activities along with our growing arts community.
