Commercial Cards have long been used in the public sector for ad hoc spend, but a growing number of organisations, from councils to colleges, are leading the way in using cards in increasingly sophisticated ways and reaping the added benefits they can bring.In part this has been driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has put payment solutions firmly under the spotlight. Many organisations have accelerated plans to simplify their processes and embrace digital payments, while homeworking has created a desire for greater control and transparency.But for the public sector, the shift is also a means of tackling funding issues. Making time and cost efficiencies related to back-end processes frees up time and resources which can then be dedicated to maintaining frontline services in the face of budget cuts. With this in mind, the added value that Commercial Cards can bring in terms of streamlining processes, getting better payment terms from suppliers and even cash rebates become even more important.
