Council chief executives have asked for the same pay rise as will be awarded to the rest of local government staff during 2021-22. The Association of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers (ALACE) said top salaries have declined by 30% in the past decade and its members have been called on by the Government to tackle the pandemic, as well as Brexit. In a letter to employers, ALACE's secretary lan Miller said his members had been hit by pay squeezes and cuts to pension allowances. Last year's local government pay rise was 2.75% but the current Government offer of 1% for NHS staff puts pressure on council employers to stick to a similar offer.
