Call for 'green revolution' cash

Acting Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has called for councils to get £45bn in 'green recovery investment' cash and a host of new powers to help spark economic growth. In a speech to the Local Government Association's virtual conference, he said addressing the challenges ahead 'requires nothing less than a green revolution'. He called on the Government to invest £150bn over the next three years on a green recovery plan, to include insulating homes, green transport, and renewable energy. Sir Ed also called for extra powers to match the funding, to enable councils to implement transport measures, fast-track electric vehicle charging infrastructure and to ensure new housing has access to public transport.
