Testing and tracing drive to be backed with £3 00m funds

Councils in England will be handed £3 00m by the Government as they are given a central role in driving forward testing and tracing. In a clear vote of confidence for councils, upper-tier local authorities will be given responsibility for managing local coronavirus outbreaks. Top-tier councils have been told to draw up virus control plans by the end of next month in which they will have to detail how they will handle localised outbreaks. Councils will be allowed to collaborate on a wider geographical footprint if they wish while local resilience forums (LRF) would become involved in cross-border outbreaks or if local authorities are overwhelmed.
