Calls for greater powers to challenge auditors' decisions

County treasurers have called for changes to allow councils to better contest conclusions that auditors reach. A Society of County Treasurers response to a recent National Audit Office consultation argued councils should be able to challenge varying treatment by the same auditors in different local authorities. The response read: 'When local authorities report raising these issues with the firms in question the response is unsatisfactory and the local authority is currently not able to progress this further.'
