The low point of transport secretary Ruth Kelly's contribution to the recent Heathrow Airport debate in the Commons was her claim that opposition to expansion amounted to telling millions of people it would be harder for them to go on holiday abroad. Claire Fox trotted out the same, superfi-cially-populist line in her Viewpoint column (The MJ, 17 April). Next, we'll be told new runways are essential to achieving the Government's child poverty targets. But, of course, when your opponents resort to playground abuse, it's a sure sign they are struggling to cope with your argument.
