Local government minister, John Healey, has extended the Government's equal pay capitalisation programme. Mr Healey said there would be another equal pay capitalisation programme for 2008/9, and he would be issuing new guidance on the process shortly. 'The further round of capitalisation will allow councils the financial flexibility to spread the cost over future years,' said Mr Healey. The MJ reported in October that the Government was freeing up £500m cash to 46 councils in England in the first phase to allow them to make one-off payments of equal pay settlements.
