Local government minister John Healey has called for a new partnership between councils and commerce to deliver economic growth and regeneration. Speaking at the British Chamber of Commerce Regional Business Summit he said local business leaders and councils should 'breathe new life' into deprived areas by working together on improving transport and skills. He said: 'Business ratepayers contribute L18bn a year to local government coffers, 20% of what local government spends. Councils can benefit from a stronger role with business, and that relationship will be reinforced by the sub-national review.'
