Grant Thornton most likely to hike audit fees

Grant Thornton is the firm most likely to have proposed an additional audit fee, a survey of finance directors has found. Some 95% said Grant Thornton had proposed an additional fee at some point, with 73% saying the same for EY, 67% for Mazars, 44% for Deloitte and 22% for BDO. The survey heard concern about fees 'beginning to creep up' and that additional fees were sometimes proposed weeks after audit completion. Audit scale fees for 2020/21 were frozen last month, though Public Sector Audit Appointments, the organisation responsible for setting fees for councils that have opted into its national scheme, has warned that 'with so much turbulence and change in the environment, additional fee variations are likely to arise for many bodies'.
