Brum signs £72m contract for Commonwealth Games project

The contract to redevelop a stadium for the 2022 CommonwealthGames has been awarded by Birmingham City Council to McLaughlin& Harvey.Construction on the £72m Alexander Stadium project is expected tostart in the coming weeks, with completion in late 2021.The project will increase the venue’s permanent capacity from 12,700to 18,000, with the ability to temporarily increase it up to a maximum of40,000 for major events.Managing director at McLaughlin & Harvey, Paul Griffen, said:‘The redeveloped Alexander Stadium will showcase Birminghamon an international stage, providing exceptional facilities for itsusers while supporting a legacy and next generation of athletes andstudents who will call Alexander Stadium their home.
