Hudson to head business rates review

Local government secretary Sajid Javid has announced a review of the business rates system will be led by Andrew Hudson.Mr Hudson is a former chief executive of the Valuation Office Agency and a former director general for public services at the Treasury.In a letter to the chair of the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee, Clive Betts, Mr Javid wrote: 'As we move towards local government retaining 75% of locally collected business rates from April 2020, it is a priority of mine to ensure that the business rates retention system operates as smoothly as possible, with the scope for error minimal ised.'
