Eight years ago, on becoming a councillor, Matthew Hicks was told not to worry, because 'there isn't too much of a time commitment'. He may have reflected wryly on those words since then, not least after becoming leader of Suffolk CC in May last year -less than a year before the publication of the Corporate Peer Challenge report in February. The report said Suffolk had risen to the financial challenge of the last decade, but that the scale of the financial challenge for 2020-21 was greater than anything the council had faced in recent years.
