'It feels like the stars are aligned. There are huge new opportunities and the funding to deliver.' Even Sam Plum admits she had no idea the Cumbrian town and borough of Barrow-in-Furness would become such a hotbed of activity when she joined as Chief Executive earlier this year. In the last three months alone, Barrow has been selected for a series of national programmes that will help to drive regeneration and inject fresh investment into economic development. 'A whole host of Government and other opportunities have come our way since July,' says Sam. 'It feels like a really exciting place to be.' Barrow town centre is among 100 places selected to go through to the next phase of Future High Streets funding. Barrow has also been chosen to pioneer Town Deals, a scheme to regenerate towns, boost businesses and improve infrastructure.
