A full Lewisham LBC meeting was suspended for 20 minutes and the public eventually excluded as councillors discussed the cost of replacing chief executive Ian Thomas. In October, the council announced Mr Thomas would leave at the end of the year -just eight months after he took up the post. The protestors voiced opposition to Mr Thomas' departure. A council spokesperson said the decision to ask Mr Thomas to stand down reflected a change in direction by Damien Egan, who became mayor as the new chief executive took up his post.
