Council to grow frontline services business

Oxford City Council is to generate growing revenues from its social enterprise business Oxford Direct Services (ODS) by signing up a wide range of external customers, including other councils, as well providing services to its own taxpayers.It believes it will be able to deliver £10.4m back to the council over the next four years.ODS managing director Simon Howick said: 'A lot of other councils are interested in doing this, but don't already have their own business, like we do. It's a good way to survive in difficult times, and for us has meant we have not had to make cuts to public services.'
