Public pressure sees reduction in tree felling

Amey has reacted to public pressure over its controversial tree maintenance contract with Sheffield City Council.Mediated talks involving the contractor, council and campaigners were held after the felling of 5,500 trees over the past six years prompted public protests.Amey has now agreed to retain some of the 300 trees due to be felled and replaced, and phase work on the remainder. In addition, it will cover the cost of the ‘additional engineeringsolutions' required to make the changes at no cost to the council, which will draw up a new street tree strategy.
