APSE demands government clarity over free school lunch pledge

The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) has called for more clarity from the Government over its free school lunch pledge for every infant school pupil. APSE chief executive Paul O'Brien said detail was needed from the Deputy Prime Minister's Office and the Department for Education. Mr O'Brien said: 'I think we need some clarity about where the money is coming from and where it's going to go. There are a lot of figures getting bandied about at present. 'You need to remember the price of a school meal is different from the cost of a school meal. Local authorities already subsidise school meals. 'It's all right making a pledge at a party conference but the devil's in the detail. Has this been costed through?'
